How will we know when AI is conscious? Around the Internet The chilling truthful answer to this question is: we may never know. A more extreme answer is that we will find out with 100% certainty, but it may be too late at that point as a chain of events has already started that we can't stop, no matter what we do or try. ChatGPT is the most popular attempt at implementing a sophisticated language model, and for many more or less simple tasks, it fares quite well. However it can also be quite dystopian and chilling when asking specific questions or asking for outcomes of specific scenarios. Fact of the matter is that this one is a very complex topic to which we will not find an answer in our lifetime - but it is good to start to address these topics at this juncture in our history. Will we become mind-builders? Or slaves to our creations? |
