Total Recall

Around the Internet

I'm not entirely up to speed on the current state of the Recall affair. In case you missed it or don't know: Recall is a feature now being rolled out to Windows 11 computers that tracks everything you do. In screenshots (every five seconds) and in a database, which (at the time of recording the video below) lies on your machine, totally unencrypted.

Microsoft said it now needs some form of personal identification to unlock the database in order to retrieve or store data into or from it - like Windows Hello or scanning a fingerprint. Please don't be naive and believe that.

Too bad I missed this video when it came out. It shows you how easy it is to extract all the information from the greatest privacy and data security mishap I have seen in computing since the 90's.

The script has the fitting name of TotalRecall.

But you can trust Windows/Microsoft if you want to. I'll remain in control of my machines and the data stored on those with various open source systems I need for my purposes.
