Optimized Ortho4XP Tiles X-Plane Optimized ortho photo tiles for X-Plane On this page you can find filesize-optimized tiles, generated by Ortho4XP, for X-Plane 11 and 12. These tiles use around 75% less hard drive space than the ones generated out of the box by Ortho4XP. All textures in every tile available here feature a resolution of 2048x2048, instead of the 4096x4096. This results in considerable savings in hard drive space, with minimal to no visible loss in graphical fidelity. Coverage At this time, I have processed every single tile that makes up Germany.  If you are uncertain in which Latitude and Longitude your desired tile is, it is best to visit your favorite maps tool online and search for your location, and acquire the information on it. Also, tools like Little Navmap can also tell you quickly which location is in which tile. Zoom level and airports Standard areas have a zoom level of 16. Areas with a radius of 4km around airports have zoom level 18. This does suffice and did well in my tests. Ortho photos All photos in the tiles are generated using Bing Maps, as this provided the best results after extensive testing. You may find the one or other discoloration - it is a lengthy process but I am sometimes working on that manually. Settings All tiles are generated using these settings.  Every tile comes with its own settings file for you to verify, and to adjust settings if you want to regenerate the tile. Elevation data in tiles Every tile uses the DEM data available from ViewfinderPanoramas - but! Each DEM has been manually applied to each tile in its settings, as automatic download of the data resulted in a flat plane for me. You will find the elevation data as separate download link below. Overlays Please note that these tiles DO NOT come with overlays. You will either have to use X-Planes autogen overlay, or something like X-World from SimHeaven to increase the looks and the immersion of each tile. Tile download Every tile is available for download below. Each tile is in the 7z format, so you will need 7zip to be able to extract the tile. |
