When you are unable afford fancy sim gear X-Plane For X-Plane, I am limited in space. I did have a look at things like the RealSimGear G1000 (Link), and quickly realized that this is just a little bit outside my range of affordable items. And yes, that thing on AliExpress which is supposed to be what I linked - that's a fake. Don't buy it. Anyways. I can't afford that. But I still want that. So... time to get creative. This is my cockpit, and I can design it the way I want. First, I got myself two of these little ones: two 7" screens with capacitive touch, 1024x600 resolution: (Link). Next, I got myself a new shiny monitor stand for my desk: (Link). And finally, two of these tablet holders: (Link). OK. So we got interesting new utilities to sort of replicate a small Garmin G1000. I then found the exact space needed to screw the holders into the monitor holder (to save you some time: optimal space is 25cm - and 1.5cm inward from the front edge of the upper board), marked the points, and screwed small screws through the center hole into the monitor stand, and turned them tightly into place. Perfect hold. Put the screens in, with enough space at the right side for the cables, and connected them to the RTX2060. Now the only thing needed is to fire up X-Plane, pop out the panels into their own windows, and put them in place. And bam. There's your under EUR 150 Garmin G1000 replica - with functional touch (you will need to calibrate the touch in Windows' control panel for Tablet PC settings). Result: |
